Love: You and I

If God's love could be measured,

east and west would never be enough.

If it could be carried, like a tree,

we would bend beneath

the winds of love.

If God's love could be contained,

we would drown in that ocean each time.

If it could be defined,

the definition would start and end

with "you and I."

Maybe this love feels like

the peace of the morning

as the sun begins to rise.

Maybe this love feels like

the coolness of fall

or swinging on the porch

in early springtime.

Maybe this love is something

that is supposed to remain

indescribable. Still, it is, in fact, undeniable

that this clear mystery is

something that we have always needed

from day to day

chapter to chapter

& season to season.
