Hey, beautiful people. Since I didn't give an introduction to this series last week, I want to take the time to give an introduction about why I decided to start this series.
God has been placing me in spaces that I wouldn't have ever signed up for on my own, and everywhere I go, everything is new. I noticed that these "new spaces" were becoming increasingly difficult to handle because I couldn't fit the "new" into my schedule. So I asked Holy Spirit "can I have 28 hours in my day?" He simply said, "Taleigh, you make time for the things that you want, and if you want what I have for you, you have to make room for it."
The process of making room is to shift things around and permanently remove some things to be able to add in the "new." It made me think of my coffee cup cabinet. There are only a few instances when all of our coffee cups are in the cabinet at the same time. When this happens, we are never able to neatly line them up, instead, we have to stack them in order for them to fit. We have too many and because of that, we can't add to what we already have. If we want a new cup, we have to consider: "what is worth throwing away to make room for something new?"
I had to learn a lot, but the most liberating lesson was cleaning out, and I pray that Holy Spirit will lead you through this new season as He did and is doing for me. You know the drill...... Grab your coffee, tea, or whatever drink suits your fancy, and let's see what Holy Spirit has to say.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
In last week's post, I left you with the question....
What have you been holding on to that no longer serves you or no longer fits within the space God has placed you?
By discussing that with Holy Spirit, you now know what needs to be rearranged or thrown away from your closet (life). Sometimes we see these results, and we never knew that this thing or person was a distraction to our lives.
To bring you back to our scripture, Luke 5:36-38, it says “No one puts a piece from a new garment on an old one; otherwise the new makes a tear, and also the piece that was taken out of the new does not match the old. 37 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 But new wine must be put into new wineskins....."
Old wineskin = You in your previous season
New wine = the newness that Holy Spirit is giving you
As I mentioned before, if you're entering into a season where all things are new, that means you are also being changed from the person you used to be. You can't walk into a new season with the same mindset that you had because the new wine that Holy Spirit is giving you will not have a place to be stored/received, and it'll cause your old wineskin to burst.
Now you may be asking: Taleigh, how do I make room?
Holy Spirit revealed that in order to make room, we have to repent.
Repentance is not what you grew up hearing preached in church. It's deeper than crying, confessing, and apologizing. Repentance is the Greek word "metanoia," which means to change your mind. Changing your mind means to adjust/modify/reshape the way that you are thinking; learn to have a NEW mindset. The Word tell us in Romans 12:2 (TPT)
“Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.”
When you want to receive the new, you have to become new by changing how you think towards the new season and new wine in general. So instead of thinking that God is removing these things to hurt you, you have repent (change your mind) to see that He's helping you understand that He's only making room for what He has in store for you.
Devotional Question: What is the significance of repentance when entering a new season?
Thanks for tuning in! I'll see you next week here at CDWJ!
